Indonesia is a republic in South East Asia with approximately 237 million inhabitants. The archipelago consists of some 17,508 islands. Largest islands are Kalimantan, Borneo, Sumatra, Irian Jaya, New Guinea, Sulawesi and Java. It has a border with Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Malaysia. Neighboring Countries overseas are Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Australia. Indonesia is trapped between the Indian and Pacific. The country has a variety of landscapes such as tropical rain forests, coastal areas, coral reefs, savanna landscapes and mountain chains. There is largely a tropical climate with very dry summers and rainy winters. The capital Jakarta has nearly 9 million residents and many attractions: The tower Monasse (limonum Nasional), the old city center, the Chinese Glodok district, Sea World, parks, the Ragunan zoo, and many shopping malls. Other major cities include Surabaya, Medan, Padang, Bandung, Yogyakarta and Denpasar. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO, the Prambanan temples, the rainforests of Sumatra, the temple complex of Borobudur, the site of Sang Iran and the national parks of Ujung Kulon, Komodo and Lorentz. Sightseeing, the rich flora and fauna, the more Tobo, the temples in Bali and the Bromo volcano.
