Armenia is a small republic with about 3 million inhabitants. It is trapped between four neighboring countries, namely Georgia, Turkey, Iran and Azerbaijan. In the south of Armenia is the fertile Ararat valley. The country consists of forests, mountains, hills, lakes and many rivers. The largest rivers are the Arak, the Debed and Hrazdan. To the east lies the great SEVAN Lake. There is a continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. 1/3e of the population is living in the capital Yerevan. The city is industrial, cultural, and scientific center of Armenia. Sightseeing in the city Materadaran, the library of Yerevan, Erebuni the ruins, the Armenian historical museum and the Opera House. Other major cities are Armavir, Gyumri, Ararat, Vanadzor, Gavar, Hrazdan, Abovjan and Kapan. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO, the monasteries of Haghpat Sanahin and, the Monastery of Geghard and the Upper Azat Valley, the city Echmiatsin, with its cathedrals and churches and archaeological site Zvartnots. Other attractions are the monasteries of Khor Virap, Goris and Agartsin, the museum Manougian, the Ararat valley, the ancient fortress-Garni and the white Solar Temple.
