China is a country in Asia with 1.3 billion inhabitants and sixteen neighboring countries. It has a coastline of the Yellow Sea and the Chinese seas. The landscape is dominated by mountains, hills and highlands. Furthermore, many rivers and lakes, plateaus, valleys, basins, plains and deserts. The coastal region in the south is mountainous, with many inlets, bays and islands. There is, for the most part a temperate climate. Further regional climates, ranging from subtropical in the south to a pool environment in the northeast. The capital of China is Beijing. This city has 15 million inhabitants. The city has many museums, temples, cathedrals, mosques, parks, gardens and monuments. The best known are the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. Other major cities are Wuhan, Canton, Shenyang, Chengdu, Xi'an, Nanjing, Chongqing, Shanghai and Tianjin. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are many ancient cities, historical centers, villages, temples, tombs, palaces, caves, landscapes, reserves and national parks. Furthermore, the Chinese Wall, the sacred mountain Taishan, archaeological site of the Peking Man, the Jiuzhaigou Valley, Huangshan, the great Buddha of Leshan, the classical gardens of Suzhou, Yin Xu, the rock drawings of Dazuu, Wuyi, the Tulou of Fujian and Qingcheng and Dujiangyan irrigation system.
