India is a federal republic with over 1.1 billion inhabitants. It is partly a peninsula and its neighboring countries Pakistan, China (Tibet), Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh. India has a coastline of the Indian ocean and the Bay of Bengal. The north of India is very mountainous. Underneath fertile plains with many rivers. West lies the Thar desert. To the south lies the Dekan plateau. Furthermore, the central high plains, the Indus-Ganges plain, long coastline and two archipelagos. India has a largely monsoon climate with three seasons. Regional climate varies from tropical in the south to a temperate climate in the north. The capital of New Dehli has 10 million inhabitants. Sights are the many temples, mosques and museums. Furthermore, the Raj Ghats and Indira Gandhi's house. Other large cities are Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Dehli, Madras, Ahmadabad, Haiderabad and Poona. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are many caves, national parks, monuments groups, churches, monasteries and temples. Furthermore, the fort of Agra, the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri city, the mountain railways, the station of Bombai, the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, the rocks of Bhimbetka and the Red Fort complex, the Qutub Minar and Humayun's tomb.
