Travel information Oman : Oman is located on the Arabian peninsula and has 3 million inhabitants. Neighboring countries are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The coastline bordering the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. The Musandam peninsula is between the United Arab Emirates and the Strait of Hormuz. The landscape is defined by limestone mountains, dunes, salt plains, rugged mountain landscape with deep fjords, wide coastal strip, a pebble plains, green hills and the Rub al-Khali desert. In the north it is dry, very hot in the desert. In the south it is cooler by the monsoon. In the Hajjar Mountains is still colder. Muscat capital consists of 550,000 inhabitants and has attractions as the palace of the sultan, Al Alam, the Bait Al Zubair Museum, the Grand Mosque, the Mutrah souq and two forts. Other major cities are Salalah, Nizwá, Rustaq, Sohar, Sur and Sinesla. At the World Heritage list of UNESCO are the Bahla Fort, the Archaeological sites of Bat, Al Khoetm and Al Ayn, the Olibanum route and Aflaj-irrigation systems. Places are Wadi Bani AWF, the Wahiba Sands, the province of Dhofar, the beach tortoises from Ras Al Jinz, Nakhal Fort, the Fort Jabrin, the ruins of Al-Balid and Daymaniyat Islands.
