South Korea is a country with more than 49 million inhabitants. It is located on the southern part of the Korean peninsula. Its neighbour is North Korea. To the west lies the Yellow Sea, with folk Republic of China on the other side. In addition, South Korea has a coastline of the Bay of Korea and the Japanese Sea. Approximately 200 kilometers south by sea, the Japanese island of Kyushu. To the south and west are still some 2900 islands, which belong to South Korea. The largest part of the landscape is mountainous. Only the south and the west have become flatter. There is a temperate climate. The capital Seoul is composed of 11 million inhabitants. There are many places in this city. The palace complexes Changdeokgung and Gyeongbokgung, the 5.8 kilometre long Cheonggyecheon stream, Samjeondo Monument, the parks Namsan and Sungjoon, the Yongsan Electronics Market, many temples and museums and Sungnyemun, the historic wooden gate. Other major cities are Seogwipo and the textile city Daegu, Suwon, Ulsan, Yongpyeong, Gwangju and the port cities of Busan and Incheon. Furthermore, the Daejeon city known for the Korean Institute for Space Research and assist the historic parts of Gyeongju on the UNESCO world heritage site. It includes the Jongmyo Shrine-and-Hwaseong fortress. Furthermore, the places Gochang, Hwasun and Ganghwa and the Haeinsa Temple Janggyeong Panjeon, repository of the Korean Tripitaka-wood. And the volcanic island of Jeju and the Seokguramgrot and the Bulguksa Temple.
