Travel information Singapore history: Singapore is a country in southeast Asia with about 4 ½ million inhabitants. The republic consists of the main island of Singapore Island and 58 other islands, of which about half is occupied. Other main islands are Jurong Island, Pulau Tekong, Pulau Ubin and Sentosa. Singapore is among countries Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines. It is separated from these countries through the Straits of Johor, the Singapore Straits, Straits Kari Mata and the South China Sea. The central part of Singapore Island is a granite rock with forests, surrounded by wetlands. In the west hills and valleys and in the southeast is flat and sandy. The original vegetation tropical rainforest has given way to buildings. There is a tropical climate. The capital is also Singapore. Places are Chinatown and Little India, the Night Safari, the Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoo, the district of Geylang, Singapore Art Museum, the National Museum of Singapore and the Empress Place Building.
