Travel information South Korea : South Korea is a country with more than 49 million inhabitants. It is located in the southern part of the Korean peninsula and is enclosed by the Yellow Sea, the Bay of Korea and the Japanese Sea. North Korea is the only neighbor. South and west are about 2900 islands, which belong to South Korea. The landscape is largely mountainous. Only the south and west are flatter. South east lie the beaches. There is a temperate climate. The capital Seoul is composed of 11 million inhabitants and has sights as the palace complexes, the Cheonggyecheon stream, the Samjeondo monuments, the Yongsan Electronics Market and Sungnyemun. Furthermore, many parks, temples and museums. Other major cities are Seogwipo and the textile city Daegu, Suwon, Ulsan, Yongpyong, Gwangju and the port cities of Busan and Incheon. Daejeon is known for the Korean Institute for Space Research.
