The state of Israel is a country in the Middle East with a population of about 7 million inhabitants. Israel has borders with Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt a two Palestinian areas namely the Gaza strip and west bank. Furthermore, the country has a coastline on the west side of the Mediterranean Sea and east in the Red Sea. There is, for the most part a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, with some rain. Geographical features are the Negev desert, coastal areas, the Jordan valley and a central location mountains. With 750,000 inhabitants Jerusalem is the capital. This is distinguished in the sights: the Wailing Wall, the Temple Mount, which bore the rotskoepel and the Al Aqsa mosque, the old town and the city walls. Other major cities are Tel Aviv, Haifa port, Rishon LeZion, palms city of Jericho, Ashdod and Nazareth. In the world of UNESCO, the tels (artificial hills) of Beersheba, Hazor and Megiddo, Masada, a fortress on a rock in the Dead Sea, the holy places of the Baha'is faith in Haifa and the incense route and desert cities (Avdat, Halutza, Mamshit and Shivta) in the Negev desert. Also the ancient port city of Acre and the White city in Tel Aviv are on the list.
