Bangladesh is a republic with around 153 million inhabitants. The country is almost entirely enclosed by India. Myanmar is located in the southeast. In the south lies the Gulf of Bengal. The landscape consists of mangrove forests, bamboo forests, hills, sand dunes, alluvial islands, river deltas, mud banks and many rivers. In the southwest lie the Chittagong Hill Tracts, consisting of low hills covered with remnants of tropical rain forest. There is a tropical climate with monsoon seasons. With 10 million inhabitants, Dhaka is the capital and also the largest city of Bangladesh. Sights in the city include the Lal Bagh Fort, the 700 mosques, the Bara Katra Palace, the old market place, the Chawk, the National Museum and the Dhakeshwari Temple. Other important cities are Chittagong, Rangpur, Bangladesh, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Tongi, Narayanganj, Khulna and Barisal. The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the city of Bagerhat and the Buddhist monastery of Somapura Vihara and the Mangrove Forests of the Sundarbans, found in the Ganga River Delta. Other attractions are the Mainamati and Laimai grounds, Rangamati and Kaptai lake, coral island of St. Martin and Coxs Bazar beach.
