Bhutan is a country in Asia with 680,000 inhabitants. The kingdom lies partly on the Indian subcontinent. Neighboring countries are China and India. The landscape of Bhutan is dominated by the mountain ranges of the Himalayas. With valleys, tundra vegetation and cloud forests. In the south lies the Duar plain, consisting of fertile densely forested valleys between the many rivers. Here are also the Outermost Ranges with steep walls. There is a humid subtropical climate in the south. Further inland a temperate climate to a high mountain climate in the north. The capital of Bhutan is Thimphu. The city has 50,000 inhabitants. Sights in the former summer capital are the traditional architecture, the Tashicho Dzong monastery castle, the Tsechu dance festival, the national library and the national institution for traditional medicine. Other important cities are former winter capital Punakha, economic center Phuntsholing, Samdrup Jongkhar, Geylegphug, airport city Paro, Tashigang, Wangdiphodrang, Taga Dzong and trading post Trongsa. Other places of interest are the Punakha Dzong in Punakha, the Himalayas, the Ktsechus (festivals), the Kuje Lhakhang temple, the Tibetan Buddhist mountain monastery Taktshang, the Ugyen Pelri Palace, the monk monastery Gangte Goemba and the Dochu-La pass.
