India is a federal republic with more than 1.1 billion inhabitants. It is partly a peninsula and its neighboring countries are Pakistan, China (Tibet), Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh. India has a coastline with the Indian ocean and the Bay of Bengal. The north of India is very mountainous. There under fertile plains with many rivers. West lies the Thar desert. The Dekan plateau is located in the south. Furthermore, the central high plains, the Indus-Ganges plain, long coastlines and two archipelagos. India has largely a monsoon climate with three seasons. Regional varies from a tropical climate in the south to a temperate climate in the north. The capital New Dehli has 10 million inhabitants. Sights are the many temples, mosques and museums. Furthermore, the Raj Ghat and Indira Gandhi’s house. Other major cities are Mumbai, Calcutta, Bangalore, Dehli, Madras, Ahmadabad, Hyderabad and Pune. On the world heritage list of UNESCO are many caves, national parks, groups of monuments, churches, monasteries and temples. Furthermore, the Agra fort, the Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri city, the mountain railways, the Bombai station, the Champaner-Pavagadh archaeological park, the rocks of Bhimbetka and the red fort complex, the Qutub Minar and Humayun's tomb.
