Sri Lanka is a country in Asia with approximately 21 million inhabitants. The island is located southeast of India in the Indian Ocean. The Gulf of Mannar and the Palk Strait lie between these two countries. On the northeast coast lies the Bengal bay and on the west coast the Laccadive sea. The landscape consists of mountains, with deep valleys, fertile lowlands, savannas, small desert areas, grassy plains, dune landscapes, monsoon forests and a swampy delta with mangrove forests.
